Evolution of Charmander
Share
It’s hard to believe that the lovable Charmander first appeared on television screens some 20 years ago. Since then, the fire-breathing pocket monster has become one of the most iconic characters in pop culture and a beloved figure across generations. But what many fans don’t know is that Charmander was not always as endearing as it is now. Let’s take a look at the evolution of this beloved fire type Pokémon!
The first iteration of Charmander was revealed in the 1996 video game Red, Green and Blue versions. In this version, Charmander looked slightly different from its modern-day form—it had pointy ears and a wider, more angular body than today's version. Its tail was a bit shorter too! It also made an appearance in the anime series, but it too lacked some of its defining traits such as flamethrower attack or everstone capability.
The second version of Charmander came to life in 1999 with the release of the Gold and Silver versions. The new update included new features such as a longer, thicker tail, different head design and improved flames on its back. Although still not quite as iconic as his current form, this was a big step forward for Charmander’s evolution.
The fourth major overhaul took place with 2003 Ruby & Sapphire when we finally see what many consider to be definitive Charmander look: an orange dinosaur shape with red eyes, blue-hued eyebrows and distinctive “feet". This new design formed some key elements which would remain unchanged throughout subsequent games released for 10th & 11th generation Nintendo handheld devices. Additionally by this point, he gained fully developed abilities like Flamethrower & Everstone making him even more powerful than before!
Finally after years of changes and updates, we reach a form which can be considered complete; however if you look carefully you'll notice slight additions here and there each time in effort to perfect our favorite Fire starter further (such as sharper teeth). And soon enough Generation VIII will bring bigger surprises - so stayed tuned!
Charmander has come an incredibly long way since he first appeared over two decades ago–from primitive form to classic mascot –and his evolution is far from over! With each next installment of Pokémon seeking better technology and graphics to keep up with gamers needs across all generations; we’re set for even more unique takes on our beloved Charmander character!
